Hello, I am Amanda Sawyer, LPC (OR) and LMHC (WA). I am so honored to support you on your journey of self-discovery and healing. Thank you for being here.
About Me
As a relational therapist, I believe it is helpful to know a bit about my story. I will be a great fit for many people and a bad fit for others. Finding a therapist you connect with is the single most important part of therapy.
There are many influences that led me to pursue work as a mental health therapist. I was born and raised in Oregon, just 40 minutes from Portland. I feel very grateful for so many years in such a lovely place. My connection with nature was fostered in childhood, camping at the coast with my family and spending hours outside each week.
Like many of you, growing up, life was not always easy. I was fortunate that my grandma was always there to make life easier, no matter what storm I may have faced. I would not be the person I am today had it not been for her influence and steady support over the years. She was a loving, accepting woman and had an unshakable belief in me (and in everyone else). She taught me, through example, how much that matters and I’ve come to learn, since losing her, how truly rare it is. No one cheered for me as consistently and loudly as she did. She had a way of being present with each person in front of her that changed them, with engaged listening and asking fantastic questions -she completely changed my life. I hope to keep her legacy alive through this work.
Another major source of support and inspiration for me has been Naturopathic medicine and acupunture- both changed my life when I came upon them as a patient in my early 20s. These forms of medicine brought me such inspiration, healing and into a deeper connection to myself and to nature. I learned so much about health, ways to care for myself and how to thrive through the support of doctors who cared deeply and took the time to educate me. These experiences shaped me both as a person and as a helper/healer. I see physical and mental health as connected and I practice therapy from a holistic lens.
College and Graduate School
In college, I majored in Psychology and minored in Womens Studies. These years studying were formative years for me, and shaped me further into who I am today. Toward the end of my undergrad, I took an Ecopsychology course at Portland State University in Portland, OR. I was truly inspired by what I learned and how much deeper my connection to nature grew. Later, in graduate school at Lewis and Clark, I took many electives in ecotherapy- I knew this was the work I was most called to do as a therapist. I didn’t know then that it would help me create this solo private practice, years later.
For my internship that culminated my master’s program, I was at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, providing counseling services with graduate students there. This was a very special experience and I found such enjoyment in supporting other healers on their journey to becoming holistic helpers.
Beyond my love of nature and naturopathic and holistic healthcare, I have a long and rich history of being a professional nanny. I loved to support families in raising their children- it was such a gift I cherish. These experiences are not only deeply enriching personally, they provided me with a wealth of knowledge and lived experience caring for kids, of which I draw upon when working with my therapy clients. Providing care to babies and children allowed me to understand attachment theory in ways I wouldn’t have understood, otherwise.
Here and Now
Work Announcements: I am soon to begin offering in-office services, hiking therapy and an ecotherapy group in Tacoma, WA. If you are interested in office sessions or joining this 4 week group, please contact me via phone or email to discuss.
I aim to offer EMDR by end of Spring 2026.
Life Outside of Work
I practice yoga and explore the beautiful PNW alongside my partner. I enjoy connecting with nature, interior design, cooking, dancing, singing, writing, laughing and music, with EDM being my favorite kind. For me, nothing compares to dancing with my partner to deep house, house or drum and bass and the community is usually so full of love. I am a huge animal lover and always have been deeply connected with them-some would say it’s spiritual. I am currently a cat mom to 3 cats and this is a huge source of love, joy and fulfillment in my life.
